Synthesis, spectral characterization and catalytic activity of cobalt(II) and nickel(II) complexes with new tetradentate Schiff base ligands

Abstract
New Schiff base ligands containing N and O donor atoms were prepared by the condensation of orthophthalaldehyde and different ortho-nitro benzaldehyde. Further these ligands on reaction with Ni(II), Co(II) salts to produce respective Schiff base-metal complexes. All the new compounds have been well characterized by the analytical and spectral (IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR & Mass) data.
